Confidentiality in Housing
Presenter: Anne Moriarty, Resident Services and Affordable Housing Consultant
Confidentiality is tricky. As RSCs, we want to do what is best for the residents with whom we work, and yet, sometimes feel pressured to divulge personal information. You may be asking yourself a series of questions such as: Am I clear on what information I am allowed to share with colleagues, community providers, and residents? Does my company have release information forms to protect residents and RSCs? Do I feel as though confidentiality is a “gray area” between property managers, maintenance staff, and resident service coordinators? Are RSCs bound by HIPPA law? Join us as we discuss and answer these questions about confidentiality in housing.
Learning Objectives:
1. Understand what information is permissible to share with colleagues, community providers, and residents.
2. Understand HIPPA law.
3. Learn strategies to redirect conversations when you feel pressured to share personal information.
