Member Reflection: How NERSC Shaped My Growth as a Resident Service Coordinator

As the summer days wind down, my focus at work has gradually shifted from planning enrichment activities to help our residents stay cool on warm days, to ensuring that our families have everything they need for back-to-school. This transition into the school year has led me to reflect on my own learning journey.

I have been working in public housing for only three short years, during which I have learned a great deal about a wide variety of topics. These topics range from conflict resolution and social media to federal and state housing laws, and of course, my newest project—gardening!

I am thankful that I found NERSC. NERSC not only helps me acquire the skills I need as a Resident Service Coordinator (RSC), but also provides an exciting, engaging, and valuable learning experience at the annual conference.

After attending my first conference a few years ago, I was eager to return to my office and start emailing many of the new people I met—many of whom I now call friends! I love having a fresh perspective when I'm struggling with an RSC task, someone to bounce new ideas off of, and someone to share my success stories with. Through attending NERSC conferences, I have gained not only additional education but also a community and lasting friendships. The conference also provides a safe, trusting space to discuss "hot topics," and I am grateful for the many self-care and entertainment options it offers! I'm very much looking forward to the NERSC 2025 Annual Conference. I can't wait to see what 2025 brings!
