Reflecting on My NERSC Experience: Why I Keep Coming Back
As the conference gets closer, I find myself thinking more and more about it! I spent some time today looking at photos from a few years that I have attended. As I browsed through my photos, I began to reflect on “ My Why” and why it's important to ME to attend the NERSC Conference.
For me, I have learned that the NERSC Conference provides me with so much more than just learning opportunities and tools that are uniquely tailored for my role as a RSC. The conference creates a space where I am surrounded by individuals who can relate to my daily experiences at work. Colleagues who understand the sense of accomplishment when a tenant I have been assisting finally receives SSDI or approval for SNAP. They also understand the emotional challenges I face when working with tenants who are facing eviction and the difficulties involved in the process of maintaining tenancy.
We are employed by the property, but our true commitment is to the tenants we serve. My colleagues share similar successes and stresses, which fosters a sense of camaraderie and support.
Each year, the NERSC Conference Planning Committee works for months to deliver a comprehensive conference that addresses the unique and diverse needs of RSCs from various states. I often use the time at these conferences to delve deeper into the latest updates from the state and federal levels. I am looking forward to this year's conference to learn more about how we as RSCs can support our residents to overcome the recent cuts on federal programs.
If this is your first year attending the conference or if you would like someone to chat with, please feel free to email me at Coreen@Ipswichhousing.com. See you in a few weeks!
Thank you for your beautiful reflection! I, too, so look forward to the annual conference for all of the reasons you shared....being "in a room" filled with energy and passion for the work we do is invigorating and affirming!
